Leggi tutto...

Analgesic effect of subcutaneous administration of oxygen-ozone. A blind study in the rat on the modulation of the capsaicin-induced edema.

The Authors have explored a new complementary approach, employed in the last 40 years for, among other uses, medical purposes: oxygen-ozone therapy. Anecdotal works have highlighted interesting results obtained in disk herniation with infiltration of paravertebral muscles with oxygen-ozone.

To verify the existence of a nociceptive effect and investigate a possible mechanism of action, an experimental model of edema induction by subcutaneous capsaicin injection in the rat paw was employed. Leggi tutto...

Effects of deep vs. superficial stimulation of acupuncture on capsaicin-induced edema. A blind controlled study in rats.

The modality of needle stimulation in acupuncture is part of the concept of the ìintensityî of the stimulation, a variable indicating the ìdosageî of the treatment administered.

In this study we intend to compare the effect of superficial and deep needle insertion in the leg ipsilateral or contralateral to the paw treated with capsaicin. Leggi tutto...

The role of manual acupuncture and morphine administration on the modulation of capsaicin-induced edema in rat paw. A blind controlled study.

Neurogenic inflammation, includes vasodilation, the increase of vasal permeability and edema due to the release of neuromediators from nerve endings.

A modulation of the release of neurotransmitters, from nerve endings and neurogenic inflammation related phenomena, was observed with the administration of drugs or of neurotransmitters inhibiting the release of neuropeptides from capsaicin-sensible neurons, among which morphine and other endogenous agonist opioids seem to be effective. Proposed method for double-blind study of reflexotherapy phenomena.(article in italian)

The Authors report their experience with the placebo, an essential step in the clinical study of reflexotherapy.

They assert that also in this branch of medicine it is possible to carry out a "double blind" clinical experimentation by means of placebo, that is, an essential condition in order to develop a scientific assessment of both the limits and the potentialities of reflexotherapy.

The influence of acupuncture on blood serum levels of tryptophan in healthy volunteers subjected to ketamine anesthesia.

Ketamine, 2-(0-chlorophenyl)-2-(methylamino)-cyclohexanone, is a general anesthetic which on awakening produces psychic disturbance correlated with the metabolism of serotonin.

Since it is know that acupuncture increases cerebral serotonin, the blood levels of total and free tryptophan, its precursor, were studied in healthy volunteers to find out if the anti-hallucinatory action of acupuncture is dependent on an increase in cerebral serotonin.

Comparison study between acupuncture and pentazocine analgesic and respiratory post-operative effects.

The authors studied the effects of acupuncture and pentazocine on post-operative respiratory function and pain management on patients hysterectomized by means of a subumbilical midline incision.

The acupunctural technique consisted of GB-26, St-36, Sp-6 and auricular Shen-Men bilateral electrostimulation for 40 minutes. Leggi tutto...

Influence of acupuncture on the postoperative complications following ketamine anesthesia. The importance of manual stimulation of point R and shen menn.

The Authors have investigated the antihallucinogenic and sedative effects of auricular points R and shen menn during surgery under ketamine anesthesia.

The results demonstrate that the insertion of the needle in point R is very efficient in reducing hallucinations of ketamine emergence, while the insertion of needle in auricular point shen menn causes only a brief period of sedation in the beginning of the emergence period.

The acupunctural technique employed by the Authors has been shown to increase considerably approbation of ketamine anesthesia.
